Yesterday, I purchased Redmi 13C mobile and set it up. When installing PhonePe, it was unable to send SMS to verify bank account. Though, it has SMS balance, text messages were not going through. I restarted it hoping that it will solve the problem, but in vain. Checked “Message Settings” in the “Messages” app and I can clearly see that there is just “+7” in the SMSC field where as it should be a mobile number. SMSC is an acronym for “Short Message Service Center.”
Googled how to edit it and found that dialing *#*#4636#*#* and editing the SMSC number will work. It will open up Testing Menu and scrolling down, you can see the SMSC field. Click “Refresh” and you will see the value. Enter your operator’s SMSC number for your state (google for the number) and click “Update.” Once done, click “Refresh” button to populate the updated number. If it shows the number, it did work, otherwise not. In my case, I have tried this many times, but it was throwing “Updated Error” message and wasn’t working.
Again googled for any other option, someone was saying to get a new SIM and someone was recommending factory reset. One of the guys at OnePlus community said that he resolved this issue using NetMonster app, but didn’t tell how to do. I tried through this app and voila, it worked!
So, here are the screenshots to explain exactly how to do. SMSC numbers for Airtel can be found here.
