Free Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India in PDF Format

By | October 27, 2013

I have been learning a lot about Ayurveda these days. I started translating Maharshi Elchuri‘s Ayurveda videos into English a month ago. He has popularized Ayurveda at least in AP and literally gave a life to it. I have tried few of his remedies and they worked wonders. You can find my work on Ayurpedia.

While translating, it was very difficult to find the herbs’ scientific name or equivalent name in English and Sanskrit. I had to make sure using lot of resources that I am naming them correctly. I have collected Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia eBooks for referencing. They are available for free on various websites including the Indian government websites. Few books are available in parts. I merged them and made a single book.

Below are the links to those eBooks, which might be beneficial to the students of Ayurveda as well as general public.

I don’t know how to express my gratitude.
I’m working on Bower Manuscript which was written at about 3-4 AD in Sanskrit. But I know nothing about Sanskrit and Ayurveda. The research is difficult and it’s hard to get more reference materials in China (especially written by Chinese). I’m very depressed indeed. Thank you very much for your work. It really means a lot to me.

    Dear Naveen, Namaste!
I am glad to know about your this site and currently I work as a General Manager of an Ayurvedic Manufacturing Company here in Nepal. Your site helped me to download the API, Appendices, Classical Ayurvedic References for which I thank you very much.
In the meantime I regret to inform you that I could not find Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, Part II, apendix 2.4 for microbiological test & Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India, Part II, apendix 2.3 for heavy metals.
Would it be possible for you send me a copy of appendix 2.4 & 2.3, for which I will be very greatful.
    Regards,

I just checked the PDF called “API-II-Vol-2” for the chapters you asked and I am able to find them. Given page numbers seem to be wrong. Search the PDF with the keywords and you will find. Refer to Page No. 54 for Heavy Metals and Page No. 65 for Microbial Testing

    Dear Naveen,
It is stated there for the tests to be carried out for microbiological contamination & heavy metal residue. But can you find the treatments available through API to eliminate them.

This post has been shared on many websites and these PDFs get a huge traffic everyday. DropBox limits the number of downloads a day, so if you are getting error, try it the other day. I just tried now and it worked.

    Dear Naveen
You are doing great job. However, the information is traditional wealth of India and we need to preserve it. It should not be freely available outside India.
    Good Luck.
