This Virtual Credit Card creation method is for Indians who does not have a valid credit card and wants to make online transactions where credit card is mandatory.
What is a Virtual Credit Card?
Virtual Credit Card (VVC) is a one-time usable credit card with a preloaded amount and comes with few months of validity. It is the safest way to pay online.
My Method!
Following is a method I am using since 2005 to make online transactions. At that time, I did not have a credit card and getting a credit card was very difficult thing. I found this facility in HDFC Bank, explored its full strength, and able to make online transactions since then.
How to get these VVCs?
For this method, you need to have an HDFC Bank savings account with International Debit Card. If you have a normal debit card, apply for an International Debit Card. Visit an HDFC Bank branch nearest to you and submit a simple application for International Debit Card, which takes around a week or two to get your card. If you have not opted for online banking facility, go and get it.
You can create unlimited virtual credit cards using NetSafe by HDFC Bank. Go to the homepage of HDFC Bank and select “NetSafe/ Verified by Visa/ MasterCard SecureCode” from the different account logins available on the homepage. It pops up a window where you can register for NetSafe using your International Debit Card.
Once you registered, login into your account and it will show your balance and option to create a virtual credit with a specified amount. Fill the amount and click “GO.” It will create a virtual credit card with expiry date, CVV, and the amount you have chosen.
Don’ts:
- Do not use this virtual credit card where physical goods are delivered at your doorstep upon presentation of the card to the delivery boy.
- Do not use this card where recurrent payments are made because it expires in a month or so.
Except the above, you can now use the virtual card for online payments safely.
VCCs Benefits ”“ From my experiences
Though I have a credit card now, I still use virtual credit for online transactions where free trials are offered upon entering the credit card.
- Past year, I have signed up for a hosting company, which offered one year free hosting. I just needed to signup with my credit card to get this offer. They told that if I am not satisfied with it, I have to cancel it before next renewal. I found that their service was crap and when I tried to cancel it, I found that I have to contact their customer service team to cancel it. There was no option to cancel it from the control panel I have been provided with. Assume, if I have provided my original credit card and at the time of renewal, I mailed them to cancel, but they did not turn up on time, then I had to lose the renewal free, which was more than 150 dollars. Fortunately, I have signed up with them with a VVC of Re.1, which already expired. So, happily I have just mailed them to cancel it and forgot. Because, it was a VCC and I do not need to worry about it anymore.
- I get a lot of free trial offers for webmasters where I need to signup with a credit card to available the trial offer, but I need to cancel it before the trial offer expires. Sometimes, I get offers that are just 1 or 2 days valid. After that they bill my credit card without any notice. For these, I always use VCC with a value of Re.1. I just concentrate on getting more benefit from the offer than worrying about the automatic re-bill because they cannot rebill my card with their huge fees as my VCC can be billed for Re.1 only and eventually, they can’t bill it and the offer expires.
wow what a very smart move just one question do you have to be pure indian or can you be mixed.
You need to be a resident of India and have address and ID proof to get bank account.

Thanks Lisa for those racist comments.
Dear Naveen,
your post is very helpful but I have one query I want to know that can I use my VCC generated by my HDFC bank account for making payments through paypal on ebay.com
regards
Hello Naveen,
I don’t have a HDFC Bank Account. Can you give a Virtual Credit Card of $15 Value for purchasing a Hosting Account and % Trial Offers of $1 each. If yes how much you charge in Indian Rupees/
Murali
Naveen is No frills( zero balance) account supports NetSafe cards can u enquire it?
I think it will not have an online account. It comes with very limited options. Google for “HDFC Customer Care Numbers” and give them a call.
for paypal etc verification does this card is useful. it is one time use so after verifying then – is there any further requirement of that vcc card no. in the paypal or one time number giving is enough to paypal. please clear my doubts about paypal verification and vcc vdc….
Yes..you can verify with VCC. You just need it once.
what are the charges for the same after getting the international debit card?
May I need an Indian account, is it possible in HDFC NRE account?
I think you can do it with HDFC NRE account also. Mail customersupport@hdfcbank.com to check whether NRE account supports that.
can we pay outside the India using VC? what is the charges.
If you are using it to pay in dollars, then the conversion charges will apply. It will come to around Rs.50/$1. If it is in rupees, no extra charges.

That card will be attached to your account, so it may become a problem. Look two comments above, someone is providing the VCC. You can also purchase a prepaid credit card from any bank, ICICI, HDFC, SBI, etc. Check with banks.
is there would be the
another possible way, because i dont have a hdfc bank account …….?????
Just look the comment above. You can purchase a prepaid credit card now from lot of banks. Try to purchase a low denomination one and see if you can verify with it.
@Naveen:
@All:
I need to send my credit card information including CVV details to apple that my company don’t want to. Will this VCC work in that case?
Now, they have changed the rules,
today when we created a vcc card it showed this quoted message below.
“”¢ Recurring charges will be automatically charged to your card. ”
The netsafe card is connected with your main account and it will get charged.
I am assuiming when you generate the card you get card number, expiry date and CVV. What about the VBV password? Does that also get generated?

HI NAVEEN…..YOUR POST IS THE ANSWER TO ALMOST ALL MY QUESTIONS….BUT THE ONE THING THAT TROUBLES ME IS THAT :
I HAVE TO LINK A CREDIT CARD TO PAYPAL FOR PURCHASING NEEDS( AS PER NEW INDIAN RULES OR SOMETHING ), SO THIS VCC EXPIRES ONLY IN A MONTH OR SO AND PAYPAL ALLOWS ONLY UPTO 5 CREDIT CARDS TO BE LINKED SO HOW I AM GOING TO REMAINED LINKED TO PAYPAL FOREVER ? BECAUSE EVERYTIME I MAY NEED A NEW VCC GENERATED FOR ONLINE PURCHASES AND THIS MAY PROVE HASSEL FOR ME ……
HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR VIRTUAL CREDIT CARD (VCC) LINKED TO PAYPAL FOREVER ?
PLEASE ADVICE…. I AM I DIRE NEED OF A CREDIT CARD
As VCCs are for only one time use, you should not link that. You should check new card option while payment and make it. That’s all.
Hi naveen, just wanted to know, I have made a purchse using the VCC i created yesterday, in the TXN details, the card states ‘IN USE’ and the merchant name is displayed. However the amount deducted is 0 yet.
So today the card expires (as its valid only 24 hours) so will the transaction be complete or?
The amount will be deducted and the excess amount will be returned to your savings account. No need to worry about.
Naveen
It is indeed a great post.
I was wondering about the process of getting a VCC and the reliability.
The very fact that you yourself has used it and you are still alive without any heart strokes that adds weight to the article 🙂
Thanks for the post.
How i purchase vcc with Sbi Debit card or Net Banking…
I have no credit card, only Debit card i have.
very informative post naveen…thanks 4 this..keep posting
awsome man… you are really intelligent 🙂
Hello Naveen, I created a netsafe card but while to do online transaction, they ask the security code (Card identification no.) which is writen behind the card. But i cant find such a no. in the netsafe card. i tried to use the no. in my original card but it doesnt help… Can u help me with that?
Security code appears as CVV once you create the card. Let me know if are unable to find it.
I couldnt find the CVV no. But i saw CVC2. Is it both the same? I tried with that also, but didnt work. I dont know why. Also for the name of the cardholder, i think i have to put the same as in the debit card. right? And how can i check if any amount is deducted from my virtual card?
Yes…that is what you are looking for. Only few sites detect it as virtual card and deny. Most of the time you don’t find any difficulty with these cards.
You need to put the name as it is on the debit card or on the account.
To check the cards issued and usage, Click on “All Accounts/Services” (appears at the bottom of the virtual card) and then click “Txn.Details.”
Ok. Thank you bro.. You are a life saver… 🙂
Sbi vcc doent work for international transactions. Netsafe is closed. Icici issue vcc only if you have a real credit card. So there’s no option right now

Man who told u that one can create UNLIMITED VCCs using NETSAFE?
they are limited to 5 cards a day.
Get your facts straight before sharing info across such platforms
It was written in 2010, around 10 years ago. That time, it was unlimited.
